Heart of the Village
Stoke St Gregory is an isolated rural community, and the village shop and pub are a vital source of friendship, community and food for residents and visitors alike. Both the shop and the pub, The Royal Oak, are owned and run by members of the community through the group called The Heart of the Village. Over £500,000 were raised by locals who now own shares in the project and the shop relies on many volunteers to help serve and clean.
It is a great little shop with many basics and some treats! The pub is developing: it serves a wide range of drinks, and has a pizza night on a Wednesday. It is hoping to have a fully functioning kitchen within the next few months.
Points West (the BBC) recently visited the village. Below is a link to their reports, showcasing the shop and pub, and our local residents!! It truly is the heart of the village!
