Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have to be vegan to stay at Crotchet Barn?

No, you don’t! We welcome everyone to stay although we do request that whilst you are at the property you do not consume any animal products including meat, dairy, eggs and fish.

Do you accept dogs or other animals?

Yes, we do! We are dog friendly and have provided spare bowls, blankets, leads, towels and local vet information. There is an outside tap and hose for washing off muddy paws after walks. We ask that you bring your dogs own bed for their comfort and relaxation. We request that, for the comfort of other guests, dogs do not sleep in/on the bed or the sofa (as this is also a bed). We also ask that dogs are never left alone in the Barn unless they are in a crate, and happily crate trained – this is for their wellbeing and the security of the Barn.

As we have our own rescue dog living on site, we also ask that our guests do not bring aggressive dogs with them. Please bear in mind that although the garden is fenced, the fence is only 3-4ft high so could be jumped by a keen dog!

If you would like to come to stay with any other companion animals, please contact us directly to discuss options.

Why do you not allow children under the age of 2?

Crotchet Barn does not have any internal safety features for very young children and infants, or any equipment to help you care for your children such as cots, high chairs or changing facilities.

At your request, we can provide child friendly table ware, games and books. There are safety latches on the kitchen and bathroom cupboards. There is a fire guard around the log burner, but please take extra care of the fire is lit and your children are in the room.

The Barn is also located on our working small holding/ food forest, which has spaces that may be hazardous to young children if they went exploring!

What times are check in and check out?

Check in is after 1600. Check out is before 1030.

How much is it to buy logs for the log burner?

All logs, kindling, firelighters and matches needed for the duration of your stay are included in the price. If you run out, just let us know and we will restock your supply. We provide clear instructions on how to light the wood burner too.

Is there parking?

There is free parking on site, right outside the Barn, for up to four cars.

Do you have electric vehicle charging points?

We do not have any electric vehicle charging points on the property. However, there are two charging points in the car park of the village hall which is about 1/2 mile away. They are for use by residents and visitors to Stoke St Gregory and are accessible via an app. The instructions for use are on the points.

Do you have Wifi?

Yes, the Barn has unlimited Wifi included. The property has a download speed which is more than adequate for internet browsing/ watching films etc. However, please be aware that the upload speed is very poor and cannot be improved as it is due to the location of the broadband line. Upload speeds can be improved if you are able to use a 4G hotspot.

How accessible is Crotchet Barn?

Crotchet Barn is a single storey building without stairs. However, it does have one internal step to access the property. Once inside the property it is level access to all rooms. There are double glazed doors to the front and rear of the property with their associated lip to step over. The front door is not wide enough to access with a wheelchair. There are no grab handles or other disability features within Crotchet Barn at present.

To access the garden, there is a step down from the decked area, then a level gravelled area and a grassed area.

Are there any house rules?

Yes, we do have some house rules which we ask our guests to abide by, mainly for the comfort of other guests. The house rules are:

  • No smoking or vaping in the house.
  • We ask guests to be quiet between the hours of 2300 and 0700.
  • If your companion animals come on holiday with you, we request that they do not sleep on or in the main bed or the sofa (as this is also a bed).
  • Companion animals should never be left alone in the Barn unless they are in a crate (and only if they are used to being in a crate). This is to prevent distress to your pet and to protect the Barn from damage.
  • We request that you remove your shoes in the property. If you require slippers, please ask us for some.
  • No children under the age of 2 years.
  • No parties.

How can I pay?

We ask for £100 deposit at the time of booking, and payment of your outstanding balance either prior to or on arrival. We accept cash or BACs transfer. We do not accept cheques. In exceptional circumstances and with prior negotiation, we may accept Paypal payments – please discuss this with us at the time of your booking.

Lovely place to stay, the cottage has lots of character. Was amazing to see the stars at night due to the rural location (no light pollution). Hosts left fresh fruit and veg, which was a lovely gesture. The bed is huge and there are hard, medium and soft pillows to pick from. A good sized T.V., lots of appliances and lovely garden space. Many thanks for the lovely getaway 🙂
